What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct healthcare profession that focuses on treating the root cause of disease and illness through supporting optimal health and empowerment. Naturopathic Doctors are primary health care providers that have received 4 years of post-graduate education and are regulated through the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.

Naturopathic medicine takes into consideration that each individual has his or her own unique lifestyle factors, genetics, and environmental exposures that contribute to overall health. By analyzing how the body functions as a whole and how each organ system is affected or influenced, they can effectively address the root cause to illness. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are trained to integrate standard laboratory testing with more advanced functional lab testing and findings on physical examination with a broad range of natural therapies. These therapies include, but not limited to, lifestyle counseling, botanical/ nutritional supplementation and Traditional Chinese medicine/ acupuncture. Therapies can be use in conjunction with conventional medical treatments.

Through a patient-centred approach, naturopathic medicine uses a combination of both modern scientific research for natural therapies and traditional forms of healing that are individualized to assist each patient’s health goals and get you feeling your best.

Are visits covered by OHIP?
